In every Blackjack game, players can choose what to do with their two dealt cards. Players can add to their hand total by Hitting, can remain as they are by Standing, can Split pairs into two hands, or can Double Down, a combination action that doubles the original bet.
Blackjack Basic Strategy is the standard player guide for how to choose between these options. Blackjack Basic Strategy is basically a collection of recommended choices based on the law of averages. The strategy tells players what the best move to make is given a specific set of cards in an average game situation. Note that Blackjack Basic Strategy does not take card counting into account.
There are two elements that Blackjack Basic Strategy calculates when formulating its optimal actions. The first is what the player is holding in his hand. These two cards and their total value help a player know whether or not to risk accepting a hit. In addition, players must also take into account the value of the dealer's face up card. A player can decide which move is best based in part on whether or not the dealer's card has a high value or not.
Blackjack Basic Strategy is therefore about making assumptions. By pairing the knowledge of the dealer's face up card with a player's two-card hand total, a player can figure out, based on what the dealer is likely to be holding, which measured risk to take with their own cards. |
