So you're ready to try a fun and exciting game of backgammon? The following backgammon directions will show you how.
Firstly, you need the right equipment. A backgammon board, two dice, a doubling cube and 30 checkers are what you will need to play backgammon. You also need to understand the objective and the rules of the game. Your main purpose in the game is to be the first player to transport your checkers across the backgammon board into your home board area and then bear them off the board. This may sound easy but remember that your opponent is trying to do exactly the same and will be attempting to slow you down in the process.
To move your checkers, you need to roll two dice. You can either move one checker the full amount shown on both dice, or one checker per die. Backgammon directions stipulate that you can move a checker to any open point on the board. You can also move to a point occupied by one of your opponent's checkers. This is called "hitting" and involves your opponent's checker being removed from the board and placed on the bar area in the center. According to backgammon directions, this checker must be played back into the game by your opponent before he can move any other checker.
While the backgammon directions basically dictate that the game is a race around the board, a good deal of strategy and mental prowess is needed in order to bring checkers safely home. The luck of the dice also plays a large part in the game, but mostly skill is needed to protect and defend checkers and to attack those belonging to your opponent. |
