Learning to play backgammon is simple enough, but it takes quite a while to actually master the game and become an expert. Understanding the rules is not sufficient to make you a good backgammon player. Practice will eventually allow you to build up your skill level and ensure that you become good at the game. There are several backgammon tips that new players should consider to help get them on the path to becoming better at the game.
One of the most important backgammon tips for beginners that is sometimes overlooked is that fact that players can redouble after they have accepted the doubling cube. In other words, if the opponent has doubled the player to two, the player can immediately (or later in the game) redouble to four. This is a strategy that can give the player the upper hand in the game. Also, remember that if your chances of winning the game are at least 25%, you should accept a double.
One of the other backgammon tips for new players involves 'playing it safe'. When asked to give out general backgammon tips, many advanced players say that they got where they were by taking chances and moving away from the obvious game strategies. The bottom line is that players should play with a lot of common sense and an open mind, to ensure maximum success in the long run. Listening to the tips given out by expert players and practicing your own game is the best way to become a good backgammon player. |
