Whether you are new to the game of backgammon or are a seasoned player, there are several backgammon tactics that are important to know and keep in mind.
The first of these backgammon tactics is to be bold! Boldness is a characteristic of which the importance cannot be stressed enough when it comes to winning the game of backgammon. Don't be afraid to leave checkers exposed early in the game for the sake of moving ahead in the race to your home board. If one of your exposed checkers is hit you can use it when you re-enter to create an anchor in your opponent's home board.
Creating anchors is another of the great backgammon tactics you can use. An anchor is a made point in your opponent's home board that serves a dual purpose. With two or more of your checkers on this point, your opponent cannot land there. This hinders his ability to enter all of his checkers into his home board and start bearing off. Anchors also create landing points incase more of your checkers are hit and keep your opponent from creating a prime or blockade to trap you.
Another thing to keep in mind when thinking about backgammon tactics is that you should only strike when it doesn't put you in jeopardy. If, for instance, you are much closer to winning the game than your opponent, it isn't worthwhile to hit your opponent near your home board if it leaves one of your checkers exposed and open to a return hit. |
