While backgammon can be considered a form of entertainment that is impacted by luck, the most significant aspect of the game is the skill factor. As such, if you aim to win your games and are not just in it for the fun, you will need to work on your backgammon strategies. The problem is that many players don't decide on their backgammon beforehand and land up playing 'any-which-way'. We outline some of the more common backgammon strategies and show you how they work.
One of the best backgammon strategies that are especially good for beginners is the running strategy. Essentially, this involves avoiding getting hit or trapped on the backgammon board by the opponent. To do this, you need to get as quickly as you can to the other side of the backgammon board. A common trait of this strategy is to get your deepest checkers out first. Adopt this strategy when you are ahead in the game.
Other backgammon strategies involve trying to fool the opponent. This can be in the form of flipping the game by trying to figure out what strategy your opponent is playing and then flip the game in an instant to throw the opponent off balance. Bear in mind, however, that your opponent also knows of this strategy and will be watching your every move in anticipation, so you really need to master this strategy if you want it to work. Practicing these backgammon strategies and becoming familiar with others such as 'the Priming Game' and ‘the Holding Game’ are an essential part of your success at backgammon. |
