There are twenty four points on a board. For backgammon setup, think of the points like this…Player one's points start at his of her right hand corner closest to his or her body. The points are numbered in a clockwise rotation ending with point twenty four at player one's farthest right corner. Remember that the points are switched for his or her opponent. Player one's twenty four point is player two's one point.

In backgammon setup you also need to understand the way the checkers are placed on the points. Here is the checker placement information…Point six has five checkers, point eight has three checkers, point thirteen has five checkers and point twenty four has two checkers. Each player must set up their checkers according to this pattern and the game will be arranged properly.
