There are many different varieties of backgammon play. It's fun to play with people from different countries and see how their game differs from your game. Backgammon though is an ancient game and a classic one which has specific backgammon rules no matter what country you play in.
For one thing, the roll of the dice tells the players how much they can move the checkers. The dots on the dice are called pips. These pips tell the player where he or she can place his checkers. Backgammon game rules specify that because you roll with two dice you can use these two together or apart. To give you an example, if a player rolls a one on one die and a two on the other, the player has these options…He can either move one checker three or one checker one and another checker two. Backgammon rules also specify that you can only move your checkers to an open point.
What is an open point? A point is open when it has less than two of the opponent's checkers on it. If the point has one of the opponent's checkers on it you can move your checker on to the point and his or her checker is moved to the bar. Backgammon rules title this space in the middle of the board, where the board folds if it is a folding one, this is called the bar. |
