If you are a recent addition to the ranks of backgammon players, then your strategy may not be all that it could be. Here are a few backgammon playing tips to help you improve your game.
The most important of all backgammon playing tips is to be bold. Many beginners are afraid to leave checkers exposed, for fear of being hit by their opponent. You must fight this fear! Players that play it safe all the time rarely win the game. Remember - backgammon is a race so you need to make bold moves early in the game to put yourself ahead.
Most backgammon playing tips are about how to win, but there are also pointers for what to do when you see that you have no chance of winning. Rather than give up completely, at least focus your attention on getting all of your checkers to your home board, so you won't win by a backgammon or gammon. Don't forget that a normal loss, with all your checkers in your home board, loses you only one point as opposed to two or three.
Finally work on your defense! The best backgammon playing tips for defense are creating anchors and blockades. When you create made points with two or more of your checkers, they become useless to your opponent. Rows of made points, or blockades, can trap your opponent. Anchors, or made points in your opponent's home board, make it more difficult for your opponent to enter all his checkers and create landing spots for you. |
