So you've learned the basic rules of how to play backgammon - how to set up the backgammon board and the objective of the game - but you are still losing. Here are a few basic backgammon playing tips and strategies to help you win the game.
The most important of all backgammon playing tips is to be aware! You must pay attention to what your opponent is doing - if you can figure out your opponent's strategy then you can do all you can to foil his plans before they succeed.
Two great backgammon playing tips to look out for in your opponent's game, or to try for yourself, are anchors and blockades. As you probably know, a made point is a point with two or more of your checkers on it that your opponent may not land on. You can use made points to your advantage by creating rows of them, known as blockades. If you have six made points in a row, a backgammon prime, your opponent may not pass at all. Create a prime in your home board and then hit an opposing blot. This blot will be trapped on the bar while you move all of your checkers home and start bearing off. Anchors are made points in your opponent's home board, which keep your opponent from creating a backgammon prime to keep you out of the game and also put you in the place to hit your opponent.
Follow these backgammon playing tips and see how quickly you improve. |
