The chief aim of the backgammon board game is to become the first player that is able to bring all their checkers into the home area of the backgammon board, and from here to bear them off, or take them off the board. While you are trying to achieve this task, at the same time you try to prevent the opposing player doing likewise. The rules of the game allow one player to hit an opposing checker if it is the sole occupier of a point.
This is one of the reasons why players place two or more checkers on points as the opposing player cannot hit them and force their removal to the bar running down the center of the board. It is in this context that the backgammon play "to strip a point" tactic becomes relevant. Backgammon play's to strip a point tactic describes a situation where players have piled more than two checkers on a single point, and they proceed to remove the additional checkers while leaving last two checkers. In this way they ensure that the checkers on this point are still protected against getting hit.
