Download Backgammon SoftwareThe key to winning a game of backgammon online is knowing how to use strategy to create advantages for your checkers on the backgammon board. It is not enough to simply move your checkers as fast as possible around the board, thereby engaging your opponent in a direct race. If you do this, you trust far too much to the roll of the dice. As it is impossible to predict what the pip count on the dice will be after each roll, a different approach to the game is necessary. One that definitely gives you more control over proceedings is using strategy.

Backgammon online strategy should be part of every game plan. Many common strategies can be found online and memorized until they become second nature. Among them the ability to play the opening rolls is crucial. A successful backgammon player should know the most advantageous checker moves for each opening combination. Taking control of the board and starting out as you mean to go on is a wise course of action in backgammon. If you can secure crucial points on the board, you have far more chance of dominating the game.

Another common backgammon online strategy involves a player's defensive game. Attempting to hit as many of your opponent's checkers as you can is a useful strategy. Because these checkers must be placed on the bar and replayed into the game, you will gain valuable time to move your own checkers toward your home board. Playing a strong backgame is also useful against certain opponents. The construction of anchors on the fourth, fifth and sixth point can make it difficult for your opponent to move his checkers home and bear them off the board.
