The backgammon layout or setup is a board game arrangement that has become well known all around the world. Take a flat board divided into twenty-four narrow triangular divisions, with a slightly elevated ledge dividing the board in two to create home and away playing areas for each competitor, take thirty round shaped checkers and divide them equally between two player and then take a couple of die (dice) and a dice throwing cup, and you have the basic elements of the backgammon layout.
It has also become common to add an additional die called the doubling-cube. This cube is larger than the standard dice, and it is also numbered differently. Instead of the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, the doubling cube is numbered 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64. It is used is backgammon gaming to indicate when a player wants to double the stakes.
At the start of the game the backgammon layout requires a particular arrangement of the checkers. The standard starting position has each player begins with two of their checkers positioned on the opposing player’s first point, five checkers placed on the midpoint, three checkers placed on the eighth point and the last five checkers go on the sixth point. This backgammon layout may is soon memorized.
Also, if you are playing one of the popular online backgammon offerings, there is no need to worry about remembering the opening setup. The layout is made in a moment as soon as you logon to the site and select to play a new backgammon game. |
