If you are new to the game of backgammon there are several concepts that you should understand. These basic backgammon instructions include board set-up, objective and rules for achieving the objective.
A backgammon board is divided into four quadrants, each with six triangular points. The quadrants are your home board and out board and your opponents home board and out board. To set up the board you must number the triangular points from one to twenty-four starting in the outer corner of your home board and ending at your opponent’s one point. The checkers are then placed as follows - two checkers on the twenty-four point, five on the thirteen point, three on the eight point and five on the six point. After following these basic backgammon instructions for set-up you are ready to play the game.
The object of the game is to get all of your checkers to your home board and then to bear them off the board before your opponent by following these backgammon instructions.
This objective is achieved by moving your checkers around the board by way of the twenty-four triangular points. Moves are determined by the roll of two dice - you may move one checker for each die, or choose to move one checker for both dice. You may not land on a point with two opposing checkers. Landing on one opposing checker sends that checker to the bar where they have to re-enter the game from the start.
Apply these backgammon instructions to your game and you'll be playing in no time! |
