The basic backgammon game rules are easily learned. To begin with, what is the objective of the game? Each player aims to be the first one that is able to bring all their checkers into their home area of the backgammon board and from there to bear them off, or in plain language, remove them from the board.
The backgammon game rules teach you that the movement of checkers is made in response to the throw of dice. Although it is common to refer to a single cube marked from one to six as a dice, it is correct to refer to two of these cubes as dice and the single one as a die, and in backgammon dice i.e. two die are used. Checkers need to be moved in accordance with the numbers shown on the dice providing there is a point on the board available for this move. In addition to moving the checkers within the board, removing checkers from the board in the closing stage of the game (bearing off) is also done according to the dice throw results.
Backgammon game rules understandably also clearly lay down in what circumstances one player can hit another player's checker. Only a single checker, or a blot in backgammon terminology, may be hit. According to the backgammon game rules once a checker is hit, it has to be placed on the bar, the central edge that runs down the center of the board. The checker can only be brought back into play if the player gets the required dice throw to move it. |
