Ready to join the tens of thousands of new online backgammon fans? It's easy when you know how to apply simple backgammon game rules to your game. Your aim is to move all your checkers across the board to your home board before your opponent. Along the way you need to employ strategy to attack your opponent's checkers and to defend your own. You need to create anchors on the board to bring your checkers safely home and toss the winning numbers on the dice to bear them off at the end of the game.
If this sounds appealing and you're tempted to try a game, consider the following simple backgammon game rules. You will need a backgammon board, 30 checkers and two precision dice to play. If you want to increase the element of risk, you will need a doubling cube to gamble on your game.
The number of spaces you move your checkers during your turn is dictated by the number you roll on both dice. You can move one checker the total amount shown on the dice, or one checker per die. A checker can be moved to any open point on the board or to a point that is housing less than two of your checkers. If you move your checker to a point already occupied by your opponent's checker, you are hitting it. Once hit, a checker is taken off the board and placed on the bar. Backgammon game rules dictate that it must be played back into the game before you can move any other checkers. The first to remove his checkers from the board wins.
These are the simple backgammon game rules. What makes the game truly interesting is the strategy necessary to win consistently, the use of the doubling cube which increases the stakes, and the fast pace at which the game is played once you've mastered the rules. |
