Whether you are experienced in the game of backgammon or just starting out, backgammon game equity can be a tricky concept to grasp.
Backgammon game equity is the current value of your position in the game and usually comes into play when you are playing for money. Equity is the percent chance that you have of winning the game. This amount can be translated into money and help you determine the fair settlement value of the game, should you and your opponent stop playing at any given point. If you have a 62 percent chance of winning the game and you are playing for one dollar per point, you settle for $0.62 per point and stop playing. Your opponent’s equity is always the negative value of your own. In this case, your opponent’s equity would be -$0.62 because they owe you $0.62.
Cubeful equity is the form that backgammon game equity takes on when you are playing with a doubling cube. Cubeful equity must take into account the current value of the cube, ownership and the potential for future doubles.
It is also important to learn about backgammon match equity. Match equity is the probability of a player winning a backgammon match from a given score. To figure out match equity, you must factor in the total number of games in the match, the number of games that a player has already won, the number of games that remain as well as the backgammon game equity of the current game. |
