So you've gotten all of your backgammon checkers into your home board and you're ready to bear off. Many people think that bearing off in the backgammon game is purely luck but you can still use a bit of strategy to help you win.
In backgammon, bearing off occurs once a player has succeeded in moving all fifteen checkers to their home board which has points numbered from one to six. When bearing off in the game of backgammon you take one checker off the board for each die—if you roll a four, you take one checker each off the four point. If there is no checker on the point indicated by the die then you must move a checker that is sitting on a higher point. If there are no checkers on higher points you may, but are not obligated to, remove a checker from the highest point.
When bearing off in the game of backgammon it is important to continue to think about strategy. Many people get overexcited and bear off checkers too quickly. The first step is to even out your checkers along all six points to increase your odds of successful rolls. If you roll a two, you aren't obligated to bear a checker off of the two point—if you have a lot of checkers on higher points you can move them forward to even out your field.
Follow these simple tips for bearing off in the game of backgammon and see how much your game improves! |
