The game of backgammon is incredibly easy to learn, even if you’ve never seen a backgammon board in your life. The purpose of this article is to explain backgammon for amateurs.
A backgammon board is divided into four quadrants - your home board and out board across from those of your opponent. The board has twenty-four triangular points that you use to progress your fifteen around the board, according to the roll of two dice. The first player to get all of their checkers to their home board and then bear them off the board is the winner. Whether you are advanced or playing backgammon for amateurs the board and rules are the same. On your way around the board you may land on single opposing checkers, called blots, and send them back to the "bar" which divides the two sides of the board. Then your opponent must re-enter the game through your home board. You cannot land on a point with two opposing checkers on it.
