If you are new to the game of backgammon, a good way to learn is by reading books on the subject. There are many backgammon books for beginners. These books are generally very effective in teaching the rules of the game and basic strategy. Two beginning backgammon books that have been found to be truly helpful for players are Bruce Becker's Backgammon for Blood! and Bill Robertie's Backgammon for Winners.
Backgammon for Blood!, by Bruce Becker, is one of the best backgammon books for beginners. The style of Becker's writing is entertaining which keeps the reader interested, as opposed to many books which are dull and make it hard to keep your eyes open. Aside from the style, Becker's explanation of the game is fantastic. Although some of his strategies are outdated, as the book was published in the early 1970s, Backgammon for Blood! is great for beginners who need a basic understanding of how backgammon works.
Bill Robertie's Backgammon for Winners gives a little better outline of strategy than Becker's book. This book is one of the best backgammon books for beginners, regarding strategy. Backgammon for Winners gives an outline of how to play the game, opening moves, backgame strategy and more. New additions have been printed as the game of backgammon has changed and strategies have become more complex, so be sure to get the most recent addition.
There are plenty other backgammon books for beginners, but Robertie and Becker's books come highly recommended by players of all levels! |
