Did you always have to ask a friend how to create a correct backgammon board setup every time you play? I used to be like that as well until I started to think about numerically. The first thing you have to remember in backgammon board setup is how you count your points. I think about it like this, my one point is on the closest right hand edge of the board. There are twenty four points on a board. The numbers go up in a clockwise rotation with my twenty four point at the edge of my farthest right hand corner.
For my opponent the numbers are opposite. His twenty four point is my one point. His one point starts at his closest left hand corner and he counts his points in a counter clockwise order. You can also look up this diagram online if you are still a bit unclear. Just type in backgammon into your search engine browser and you'll find heaps of information.
The next thing you really need to understand in backgammon board setup is the checker placement. Checkers are placed on these specific points as follows, point six gets five checkers, point eight gets three checkers, point thirteen gets five checkers and point twenty four gets two checkers. If each player follows these simple guidelines of backgammon board setup you two will be off to a great beginning. It’s a great game so get started! |
