On thing that is essential to Backgammon is understanding, backgammon board set up. Without a complete understanding of how the checkers on a backgammon board are placed, a player cannot play the game of backgammon correctly. The first thing you have to understand about the game board is the big triangles which are titled points. On a backgammon board there are 24 points. A correct backgammon board setup also involves checkers and dice. There are 15 checkers per player and dice. There is also a doubling cube which is used to alter the stakes of the game. The middle section of the board, where you place the checkers which are waiting to be placed back on the board, is called the bar.

Player one's point 1 starts at his or her closest right edge of the board. The points are counted in a clockwise rotation ending at his or her farthest left hand edge. Player one's point 24 is at his or her farthest left hand edge in his or her home board. Player one 24 point is player two's 1 point.
Backgammon board set up calls for the checkers to be placed on the points as follows for each player…Point number six has five checkers, point number eight has three checkers, point number thirteen has five checkers and point twenty four has two checkers. |
