|
|
Since the beginning of the game around 3000BC, the backgammon board layout has not changed much. Many places in the world have caught onto the spirit of the game, originally played around the Mediterranean Sea, and then moving to the cities and villages of South America.
The backgammon board layout whether you buy an intricate wooden board or the take-anywhere plastic magnetic types played at pick nicks or at the beach are all the same. The board game has a rectangular shape and is divided into main parts. Each part is called the inner and outer boards, respectively. The outer inner board is your home board and your aim is to move all your pieces from this board to the outer board and then off. When you start removing pieces from the game this is called bearing off.
Backgammon board layout requires that there be 24 points represented by alternating dark and light long triangles where the game pieces are placed, 12 on each side. There is subsequent division of these points into 4 quadrants, with 6 points in each. The inner board has a total of six points numbered 1-6 for each player; similarly the outer board has the same number of points numbered 7-12.
According to regular backgammon board layout there is a ridge dividing the inner and outer boards. This is called the bar. When a player's pieces are taken over on the points, the original piece belonging to the player gets placed on the bar. This piece has to be then reentered into the game.
Many think that the game of backgammon is all about chance and luck. That is correct as far as rolling the winning sequences on the dice. However one can take charge of their game by learning strategies that are known to have success and allow you to easily beat your opponent while making it look so easy. |
