Backgammon is one of the oldest known board games. Because the game has been around for thousands of years, it is no surprise that the game has taken on countless forms and variations over the years. There are a great number of games that can be played on a backgammon board. These backgammon board games have been given the general name of "tables."
All over the world, different backgammon board games are played. Some of these games start with all of the checkers off of the board (such as Acey-Deucy, Dutch and French Backgammon and more).
Other variations on the game of backgammon begin with different checker formations. Nackgammon is one such game. The only thing that differs between this game and traditional backgammon is the set up. In nackgammon, each player begins with four checkers on the opposing one point instead of two. Nackgammon games tend to be longer and more difficult than other backgammon board games.
Long-gammon is yet another version of backgammon. In this variation of backgammon board games the players start the game with all fifteen checkers on the opposing one point. Hyper-backgammon is a shorter version of this game, with each player beginning with only three checkers spread across the opposing one, two and three points. Both of these games are great for sharpening your skills.
This is only a small selection of the many variations on the game of backgammon. With so many versions of the game, the excitement of backgammon is unlimited - just take out your gammon board and see which you like best! |
