Game cycles seem to come and go in waves and recently the board game backgammon has once again become very popular. If you don't know how to play, but want to get in on the action: don't worry. You don't really need any special backgammon instructions or training to begin enjoying the game. Actually, you don't even need a backgammon board since now it is possible to play on the Internet. Nonetheless, to keep from getting sand into your laptop, just go to your local store and buy an inexpensive set that you can take with you to the beach or to your friends. All backgammon instructions usually come with the board layout so simply put the backgammon checkers on the board according to the picture and your half way there.
Being a good backgammon player, like almost anything else, has nothing to do with how well you know the backgammon instructions. There are, however, a few slightly complicated procedures for capturing another player's checkers and then re-entering them into play, but it's not too difficult to learn and most backgammon instructions explain the rules quite clearly. Naturally the best procedure is to begin player with someone who already knows how to play the game.
Very briefly, each backgammon player sets up his pieces according to the standard layout. Then by rolling the dice he moves his checkers to one corner of the backgammon board. Once there, again according to the roll of the dice, he is allowed to remove his backgammon checkers from the board. The first player to remove all his or her checkers is the winner.
The complicating factor is removing the second player's checkers from the board or setting up your own checkers in a blocking pattern. Most backgammon instructions do not advise you how to play, they simply explain the rules. Nonetheless, people have been playing backgammon for hundreds of years and, because it is a game based on rolling the dice, even a beginner can play a very enjoyable and challenging game within a matter of minutes. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and roll those dice! |
