Download Backgammon SoftwareOne of the big draws of online backgammon is that, as well as being a stimulating game of skill, you can actually win big money. Backgammon gambling was introduced into the game early on, and certainly adds a new dimension to the game.

If you want to get into backgammon gambling, you will need to know how to use the doubling cube. This is a dice with the numbers 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 on its six faces. At the start of the game, the stake is 1, and the doubling cube is put in the centre of the board. If you think you are onto a winning streak, you can decide to double the stakes when it is your turn, before rolling the dice. Your opponent can either accept or refuse the double - if he refuses, he forfeits the game, and you win the original stake (1 at the beginning). Once the double is accepted, the dice shows 2, and only the second player can now decide to double the stakes for a second time.

You can double the stakes as many times as you like. Before the game begins, players must decide what unit they are using to bet with, so for example, 2 could equal $2 or $200.

Another important thing to know in backgammon gambling is how to score points. A regular win gets one point, a gammon (when the opponent has not borne off any checkers) gets two points, or double the value of the doubling cube, and a backgammon (when the opponent still has checkers in your home board) gets three points.

There are many websites where you can try your hand at backgammon gambling and even enter a tournament.
