Backgammon is essentially a game of strategy, and therefore, the most useful advanced backgammon tips a player can find are those that help them develop a winning strategy to quickly gain a mastery of the board.
Once a player reaches the level of skill where advanced backgammon tips become meaningful, they already have a good sense of the style of play that best suits them. For example, supposing a player feels the offensive strategy is going to be most successful, they may be advised to approach the game as a race to be the first player to bring all their checkers into the home area from where they can remove them from the board.
One of the most commonly quoted advanced backgammon tips is to adopt a strategy of hitting the opposing player’s blots (lone checkers or counters) at every opportunity. This is designed to prevent the opponent from seizing the initiative by keeping them constantly on the move in response to your attacks. Ideally, the player’s blots should be hit on their side of the board, where the value of such hits is greater. However, beware that such an aggressive policy holds the risk of leaving your own blots exposed to counter attack. To reduce this possibility, the player is well advised to follow another one of the advanced backgammon tips that recommends spreading out their counters across the board, and to keep them in pairs where possible.
By following these and other recommendations for best backgammon play, a player has a much better chance of taking control of the game and achieving a quick victory. |
