If you are new to the game of backgammon, it can be a shock when you start playing against more advanced players. Advanced backgammon play moves faster, players take more risks and have a much more developed strategy. If you want to play with the big dogs, there are a few things you should know.
Advanced backgammon players generally have played the game for a long time and therefore every aspect of the game comes naturally to them. In advanced backgammon play, players move their checkers in the blink of an eye and the moment the second checker has been placed on a point the next player is ready to roll. The fast pace of advanced backgammon play can be intimidating for some people, so just be ready for it.
In advanced backgammon play, strategy is also much more developed. You may think you have won only to reach your final checker to your home board and have your opponent hit you back to the bar. In order to hinder your opponent's strategy, you need to keep all your senses open. Pay close attention to your opponent's position - how many open checkers does he have, how many do you have? Do all you can to foil his plans before he can act on them.
Finally, you have to think about establishing your own strategy. In advanced backgammon play, the game is just as much about keeping your opponent from reaching his home board as it is about reaching your own. |
