Beginners in the game of backgammon can get frustrated as they start to play against more experienced opponents. Advanced backgammon players tend to play the game much more quickly - they may pick up your dice right after you've thrown them, before you've even made your move or move their checkers by memory, without even counting points. Advanced backgammon play can be difficult unless you have a few tips.
The first thing to understand in advanced backgammon play is that you cannot win the game by making only safe moves. You must be bold -leave checkers unexposed on the board; go for hits on your opponent close to his home board. This is the only way to win the game. Backgammon is a race for the home board and by keeping all your checkers on made points and being safe, you are only taking more time.
Advanced backgammon play also includes a lot more strategy. A popular advanced backgammon strategy is anchoring. Anchoring is when you establish made points, or anchors, in your opponent's home board. This is a good tactic if you are losing. When you establish made points in this area it not only keeps your opponent from entering his checkers, it also gives you more opportunity to hit his checkers and hinder his game. To build anchors in backgammon, you can intentionally leave checkers open so your opponent will hit them back to the bar.
Advanced backgammon play is exciting and also strengthens your game, so start today! |
