Advanced backgammon play is not necessary to enjoy the game

Backgammon is a game which is fun for people of all skill levels. If you are not an experienced player, don't feel intimidated by the game. Just keep in mind the basic rules and enjoy your time. It is a game which is meant for enjoyment and entertainment. There are some players though who people would call advanced. Advanced backgammon play is hard to define.

Advanced backgammon play is something that takes a lot of skill and practice. An intermediate player or a beginner, my not be thinking all the time of his next three to four moves and how his opponent will react. When advanced backgammon play occurs there is a constant flow of thought from each player about how they are going to win in a strategic manner. This means that when the player is making his move he or she is constantly trying to foresee the future, constantly trying to think of every possible option to gain control or stay in control of the game.

Advanced backgammon play involves a kind of dance between the players where they are feeding off each other. They are seeking out each other's weakness and trying to take advantage of them. An advanced backgammon player thinks of backgammon as less of a game of chance and more of a game which depends on strategy. A lot of time you see in these types of games that the players are gambling and maybe even playing for higher stakes than the beginner players. This is not always the case though. Just because a person my be an excellent backgammon player that defiantly doesn't mean that he or she is always ultra serious during play and enjoys the game less.
