Hi all, I have been seeing a lot of mention of the game Acey Deucey in my quest for information about backgammon on the internet. Can anyone tell me anything about it or point me to some good sites for learning how to play? Also, is there any place where I can play Acey Deucey online? Thanks in advance!

Well, I’m not sure exactly what the rules of Acey Deucy are, but I do know that you begin with all of your checkers off the board. Black enters through white’s home board and white enters through black’s home board and then both players make their way around the board in order to bear off in their own home boards. I think that aside from this starting position the rest of the rules are pretty much the same as regular backgammon, although there might be some slight differences I don’t know about.

It is true that in Acey Deucy both players start with their checkers off the board but
actually yes there are some more differences between regular backgammon and the acey deucy variation. These differences are pretty slight, but they do exist.

The first difference is that in Acey Deucy you can move any checker at any time, even if you have a checker on the bar. If your opponent hits you, he cannot trap you completely with a prime in his home board.

The next difference, which gives the game it’s name, is the Acey Deucy roll, 1-2. If you roll 1-2 you get to play the 1-2 and then call out any double you want and play it. After that, you get an extra roll. If your extra roll is acey deucy you get to repeat these benefits. If, on the other hand you are unable to play your 1-2 you don’t get to call out a double or to roll again.

Acey Deucy can be a really quick and exciting game—I suggest you give it a try and then let us all know how you like it!

I definitely recommend the game—it’s one of my favorite variations. What a great surprise to see people talking about Acey Deucey here… I haven’t played it since my army days and to tell you the truth I just about forgot all about it. Thanks for those links for downloading the game—I think I’m ready to start playing again and relive a little bit of the past. I always thought that acey deucey was an American thing but it looks like their playing it all over the world!
