Last week I was playing in a local tournament when my opponent accused me of cheating! I was pretty sure that I hadn’t cheated but I had already picked up my dice and he had rolled. I know that sometimes people misread the dice by accident and make the wrong move and I wouldn’t have had a problem with him letting me know that he thought I had made a mistake in a friendly way. However, he was incredibly rude and accusatory and it made me feel pretty horrible. I took this rather personally and chose to give him the silent treatment for the rest of the game. I was just wondering how other players would have behaved in this situation.

Well, I think the silent treatment was better than stooping to this guy’s level and getting into an argument. But I also think there are better ways to behave. Showing him that his accusation phased you will only give him cause to believe that you feel uncomfortable because you know that you DID cheat. What you could have done to ease the situation is to politely tell him that you did not intentionally cheat and that you apologize for having misunderstood his accusation.

If I had been playing online against this guy I think I wouldn’t just left the game. I guess that things are a little different though in a live tournament setting. I probably would have been calm and ignored him and then let him have a piece of his mind after I won the match!
