Learning the backgammon setup need not be an arduous task. New players can learn how to set up the board and how to master the basic rules of backgammon relatively simply.
In fact, if you're a fan of online backgammon, it's likely that setting up the board is one skill you may never need to know. The software program you're playing will do it for you. However, if you want to use your skills to play against live opponents at some point in your backgammon career, it is worthwhile learning the backgammon setup and a few tricks that will help you adapt your playing skills to the live game.
The first thing to remember about the backgammon setup is that each player must have 15 checkers. These are placed in three rows on the board and will be moved around the board by each player toward their home board areas. Along the way, these checkers should be placed upon strategic points on the backgammon board, which will offer them added security and/or make it more difficult for the other player to move his checkers safely home.
If you want to learn how to perform the backgammon setup quickly and easily, the best way to do so is to pick up a recommended backgammon book. Most backgammon books contain diagrams and illustrations of the board and how the game is initially set up. Once you've studied and memorized these diagrams, setting up the board should become second nature. Then you're ready to learn more about this exciting game and to start putting your newfound skills and backgammon strategies to the test. |
